2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Buyer’s Guide for Gurnee and Lake County: Prices, Trims, Engines and Towing

The next generation GMC Sierra 1500 is official. GMC revealed the 2027 truck in June and released full specs and pricing on September 22. This is a ground up redesign: two new V8s, a new cabin on every trim, a bigger standard screen and 12 new standard safety features. GM expects the first trucks at dealerships before the end of 2026, and Woody Buick GMC of Gurnee will have them at 5589 Northridge Drive.

Elevation: The Everyday Sweet Spot
For most daily drivers, Elevation is the value pick. Available: Duramax diesel, the Technology Package with the 11.5 inch passenger screen, underbody cameras, 20 inch wheels and the 34 gallon tank.

AT4X: The Most Capable Sierra 1500 Yet
AT4X is built to go off road straight from the factory. Standard: Duramax 3.0L diesel, the 34 gallon tank, 35 inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires (a Sierra first), a 2 inch lift with new Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, a new Baja drive mode, the Timber Mahogany interior, a flat bottom steering wheel, the 11.5 inch passenger screen, 16 speaker Bose with head restraint speakers, underbody cameras, Super Cruise and an illuminated front emblem. Available: 6.6L V8 and the AEV Edition (late availability).

Denali: When Comfort Comes First
Denali brings a luxury cabin without going to the top of the range. Standard: 5.7L V8, Super Cruise, chrome grille, Denali Premium Suspension with Adaptive Ride Control, birch wood accents, 12 way heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, 8 speaker Bose, a head up display and the Rear Camera Mirror. Available: 6.6L V8, Duramax diesel, Technology Package, 22 inch wheels and MultiPro Power Steps.

Denali Ultimate: Everything GMC Offers
This is the flagship. Standard: 6.6L V8, the 34 gallon tank, 14 way massaging front seats, 16 speaker Bose, the 11.5 inch passenger screen, Super Cruise, the articulating 16.3 inch screen, a 15 inch head up display, the 8.5 inch Rear Camera Mirror, underbody cameras, 22 inch wheels, MultiPro Power Steps and forged birch wood trim. Available: Duramax diesel.
Engine Options and Output
All four engines pair with a 10 speed automatic. The table puts output, max towing and trim availability side by side so you can match an engine to the job.
| Engine | Horsepower / Torque | Max towing (properly equipped) | Standard on | Available on |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enhanced TurboMax 2.7L Turbo | 350 hp / 455 lb-ft | 9,400 lbs | Pro, Elevation | Not offered on other trims |
| 5.7L V8 (new) | 402 hp / 428 lb-ft | 13,500 lbs | AT4, Denali | Pro, Elevation |
| 6.6L V8 (new) | 481 hp / 501 lb-ft | 9,400 lbs | Denali Ultimate | Denali, AT4X |
| Duramax 3.0L Turbo Diesel | 305 hp / 495 lb-ft | 12,100 lbs | AT4X | Pro, Elevation, AT4, Denali, Denali Ultimate |
Both V8s are new sixth generation Small Blocks with new combustion, cooling and fuel injection systems. The 6.6L is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class. The TurboMax gains 40 horsepower and 25 lb-ft over the 2026 version. The Duramax carries over as the only diesel in the half ton segment, and GM estimates more than 900 highway miles per fill with the available 34 gallon tank, based on its own 27 mpg highway estimate for 2WD. Official EPA ratings haven’t been released, and we’ll add them here when they are.
Towing and Payload: Boats, Campers and Equipment

Whether you’re pulling a boat to the Chain O’Lakes or a camper north into Wisconsin, configuration matters. The top rating of 13,500 pounds requires the 5.7L V8 in an Elevation Double Cab 4WD with the Max Trailering Package, and that setup is late availability. The same engine and package in a Crew Cab 4WD is rated at 13,300 pounds. The Duramax tows up to 12,100 pounds in a Crew Cab 4WD with the Max Trailering Package. The TurboMax (Regular Cab 2WD) and 6.6L V8 (Crew Cab 4WD) each top out at 9,400 pounds.
For payload, the TurboMax Regular Cab 2WD leads at 2,310 pounds, followed by the 5.7L Regular Cab 2WD at 2,140 pounds, the Duramax Crew Cab 2WD at 1,850 pounds and the 6.6L Crew Cab 4WD at 1,450 pounds. New for 2027 is an available Trailer Brake Gain Assistant, an industry first, along with up to 19 available camera views, including underbody cameras with a wash system. Max ratings are for comparison only. See the trailering and payload disclaimers below.

Cabin Tech, Google Built In and Super Cruise

The standard 16.3 inch center screen is the largest in the class. On Elevation and Denali Ultimate, it articulates to reveal a storage cubby behind it, which is a class first. The 11.5 inch front passenger screen comes standard on AT4X and Denali Ultimate and is available in the Technology Package on AT4 and Denali. It has a privacy cover so the driver can’t see it. Denali Ultimate combines that screen with the 12.2 inch Driver Information Center, 15 inch head up display and 8.5 inch Rear Camera Mirror for more than 60 inches of total display area.
GM’s new native software runs Google built in, so Maps, Gemini and Google Play apps live right in the truck and update over the air. Prefer your phone? Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still included. Connectivity covers six USB ports, dual MagSafe charging pads, a 120V console outlet, HDMI input and 5G.
Super Cruise works on more than 600,000 miles of compatible U.S. and Canadian roads, including while towing. It’s standard on AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate, is available on Elevation Crew Cab, and includes three years of OnStar One. Automatic Lane Change and Turn Signal Initiated Lane Change are available when you’re not towing.
Standard Safety on Every 2027 Sierra 1500
Every trim, from Pro to Denali Ultimate, now comes standard with Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, Reverse Automatic Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Rear Pedestrian Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, IntelliBeam auto high beams, Safety Alert Seat and an HD Rear Vision Camera. Elevation buyers can add the Active Safety 2 Package. These features support the driver but don’t replace one. See the safety disclaimer below.
Colors and Styling
A taller, more vertical grille and GMC’s new 7 shaped headlamps and taillamps give the 2027 truck a more upright look. Options include welcome and farewell lighting animations, illuminated GMC lettering and quad exhaust. AT4X gets a unique hood and its 2 inch lift. Denali wears a chrome grille, and the new Chrome Exterior Package adds chrome bumpers. Wheel sizes range from 17 inches on Pro to 22 inches on Denali and Denali Ultimate.
New colors for 2027 are Mesa Red, Azurite Blue Metallic and Dark Ridge Metallic. Summit White, Onyx Black, Sterling Metallic, Coastal Dune, Glacier White Tricoat and Cardinal Red carry over.
